Here's the news from the Telecommunications industry for June 2012 ..... covering MPLS, dark fiber, Cloud services, and more:

* AT&T - announced that it has reached a tentative agreement for a one-year contract extension for nearly 7,000 core wireline workers in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

* Cbeyond - announced the limited release of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 beta offerings. Working with Microsoft to offer the new Windows Server 2012 - the industry's first cloud-ready server - Cbeyond is one of the few companies offering beta versions of the new solution.

* Ernest Communications - is officially E-rate compliant, enabling support for government opportunities across the country.

* Integra Telecom - has expanded its Carrier Ethernet over Copper network to more than 120 central offices, which the company says will help it reach more than 400,000 businesses.

* Verizon - Verizon plans to deploy the Juniper Networks PTX Series in major markets in the U.S. and Europe by the end of this year, giving the company the densest multiprotocol label switching platform (MPLS) available in the industry, with an initial capacity of eight terabits per second. * Windstream - has brought its enterprise service suite to Las Vegas, a move that will clearly challenge both existing incumbent telco CenturyLink and cable operator Cox Business that have already been providing business services in Sin City for a number of years.

Cross River Fiber Attends ITW 2012 in Chicago

Posted on 09:02 by Unknown
The Windy City is about to get a lot more Windy with the arrival of over 5,000 global telecom executives about to enter town. The annual International Telecoms Week is set to begin in Chi-town on May 14 running through May 16. This year, Cross River Fiber will make its ITW 2012 debut – as the company launched in June 2011 it is their international coming out party.

What is most exciting about Cross River Fiber is its focused, high-touch, custom dark fiber network solutions. As they build out network throughout New Jersey, they are ensuring that many municipalities, hospitals; enterprise campuses and data centers are connected with the most modern fiber infrastructure available.

Don’t get me wrong; the Cross River Fiber team has been to ITW for many years – just not in their current form. The team hails from such esteemed companies as 4Connections and Optimum Lightpath (which acquired 4Connections). The founder and CEO of Cross River, Enzo Clemente, is highly regarded in the telecom engineering sphere as he has designed some of the NY metro region’s most reliable and fastest network connections. Also attending with Enzo is Mike Sevret. Mike re-joined Enzo, as they worked together at both 4Connections and Optimum Lightpath, and is now an executive at Cross River serving as the company’s Chief Strategy Officer. Both are well-connected and extremely knowledgeable executives – their experience and know-how can help companies plan their network expansions throughout the New York metro area.

To meet the team at ITW2012 email: crossriverfiber@imillerpr.com. For information about Cross River Fiber visit: www.crossriverfiber.com.

Len Bosack, CEO of XKL Announces a 100G DWDM Universal Starter Kit

Posted on 10:14 by Unknown
On a quest for Terabit technology since 2001, Len Bosack has taken another stride toward his goal of engineering innovative optical transport solutions.  XKL’s latest engineering feat brings 100G DWDM to clients in a cost-effective and efficient easy to use platform.  This new 100G-transport technology indicates significant advancements in DWDM optical equipment and provides advanced support to power enterprise networks, data centers and regional/long-haul transmission routes.

According to Bosack, this announcement is only one of many that XKL is set to announce this year.  He has implemented 100G DWDM optical networking transport solutions using advanced modulation techniques that provide more spectral efficiency.  What is spectral efficiency you might ask?  It’s the measure of how efficiently a limited frequency spectrum is utilized by the physical layer.  In other words, if you can be efficient in transmitting light across your fiber, you can achieve more speed and bandwidth.  That appears to be exactly what Len Bosack and his engineering team at XKL is set to improve.

What other features are important to XKL?

  • Equipment must be compatible with the existing infrastructure that supports 10G DWDM deployments. This means equipment must be tolerant to PMD, CD, and other fiber nonlinearities as well as interoperate with existing engineering rules established for 10G.
  • Systems must be easily deployed and managed. Equipment cannot require tweaking and be difficult when adding lambdas.
  • Products must be highly robust, cost effective and enable industry leading low latency for data transmission.

For details on XKL’s latest announcement about it’s Universal Starter kit for 100G per lambda DWDM gear, visit www.xkl.com.  To learn more about XKL’s DarkStar suite of products, email xkl@imillerpr.com.

As the Crow Flies – Network Connectivity Taking the Straight Path

Posted on 19:26 by Unknown
If you could just dig a trench from one location to another and not worry about anything in between – or simply fly direct, over land and sea to get to your destination we can get to where we are going a lot faster. In reality, we have hills to climb, lakes to traverse, turns to maneuver and obstacles to get around. There are buildings, homes, trees, gardens, farms, stores, schools, private property and more to overcome. Getting from point A to point B is not as easy as pulling a string across the room to measure the distance from one wall to another. In the land of communications, building the shortest path is not so easy. There are municipalities to work with, permits to acquire, construction to undertake and many obstacles to overcome – both above and under the ground.

What gets the job done is experience, know-how and contacts. That’s what makes the team at Cross River Fiber so affective. They have built, at the time, best of breed dark fiber networks throughout New Jersey before. Now, the team has amassed even more knowledge, contacts and has identified the routes that need the most attention and have undertaken the construction of building the newest and most direct dark fiber communication routes throughout the State of New Jersey.

I’ll Take You There
That’s the motto at Cross River Fiber. They are in the throws of constructing brand new fiber paths that will reach the towns and villages of Edison, Iselin, Woodbridge, Piscataway and Somerset New Jersey. Not only are they connecting major data centers, enterprise campuses and buildings, but they have the ability to provide custom solutions that deliver dark fiber network directly to hospitals, Government offices, University campuses, major enterprise campuses and more. To find out how Cross River Fiber can ‘Take you There’ contact the team at info@crossriverfiber.com. They will provide you with a network review, project plan and timeline to get you connected – the most direct way.

XKL to Participate at the Ethernet Technology Summit in San Jose

Posted on 09:11 by Unknown
The XKL team is getting amped up for this year’s 3rd Annual Ethernet Technology Summit in San Jose, CA on February 21-23, 2012.  After winning the Best in Show, Best New Product Launch at ITEXPO, no wonder the overall feeling is excitement.

Ethernet Technology delegates have something to look forward to as well.  XKL’s Chad Lamb will be speaking at the Terabit Ethernet Workshop, Part 1 - from 9 - noon on Tuesday, February 21.

Course description:

Even though 40 GbE and 100 GbE are just beginning to appear in data centers, it is surely now time to start thinking about a new generation. Now that 10GbE has become commonplace, aggregation links will have to provide much higher throughput. A new generation will also be necessary for telecom backbones, cloud computing, wireless backhaul, supercomputing, video networks, and many other applications. We will need new standards, new signaling methods, new test equipment, new cabling and connectors, new power reduction approaches, and many other components and system-level elements. Starting now will mean that initial terabit Ethernet implementations could be available in the 2015-2016 period.

Confirmed speakers in this session are:

Chad Lamb, Director of Engineering, XKL, “Preparing for 100G and Beyond”
Dan Dove, Sr Dir Technology, Applied Micro, “Next Generation 100G Optical Networks – Cost, Power, and Density”
John D’Ambrosia, Chief Ethernet Evangelist, Dell, “Standards Beyond 100GbE”
Saman Sadr, Sr Mgr Analog Design, Snowbush IP, “Implementing a 32G SerDes/PHY”

Trending Positive...The Dark Fiber Business

Posted on 06:26 by Unknown
Based on the thought process that the explosion of bandwidth demand won't be ramping down any time soon...so goes the consumption of dark fiber.  From wireless infrastructure and demand driven by Video over IP, and all of the world's appetite for portable devices, the dark fiber business is trending...positive.

Network operators engaged in expanding their reach, and end-users growing their local area Ethernet for example, are big consumers - especially as the availability and accessibility of the commodity has rapidly decreased the cost of implementing feasible network solutions.

Key industries driving a large part of the consumption include:
  • Carriers
  • Enterprise & Financial
  • Government
  • Education
  • Healthcare
Capacity Expansion

While there was a case made for defining the industry as  one of over capacity, it seems this is largely attributed to the availability of technologies implemented back in the 1990's.  By increasing the capacity that could be placed on a single fiber by a factor of as much as 100, the demand for fiber was  immediately reduced.  As a result, the wholesale price of data traffic collapsed.

More realistically today, the glut of fiber in the US seems to be... greatly exaggerated. Even in 2012, beyond the major metro areas, there exists opportunity to enhance bandwidth. The fiber “drought” impacts regional pockets of wireless, education, government, enterprise and carriers of all sizes. Good news is - with the cost of dark fiber and associated electronics pressured down, projects have become very affordable.  Large and even medium sized organizations can utilize dark fiber with the same benefits and cost savings as the carriers.  In fact, banking, large universities and enterprise business are leading the way, especially as they embrace data center and cloud computing strategies and the networks required. These sectors recognize the value in utilizing dark fiber to leverage gains in the capacity and flexibility of their WANS, and to connect to telecommunications providers of their choice.

Addressing the important domestic need for further/faster broadband access, wireless back-haul, data center distribution and lower latency communication services, a dark fiber connection is the foundation for further strategic fiber builds.  Cross River Fiber, a NJ-based company, designs, constructs, and maintains its own independent fiber-optic network infrastructure throughout the Garden State.  The company provides an alternate solution to Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) for organizations seeking connectivity, and bandwidth without restrictions. For guidance on the most effective and scalable high-speed fiber optic network for your business, consult www.crossriverfiber.com, or email info@crossriverfiber.com for immediate inquiries.
