* AT&T - has teamed with VMware to launch a virtual private cloud service with a wordy moniker: AT&T Synaptic Compute as a Service with VMware vCloud Datacenter Service.

* Integra Telecom - is expanding its offering of cloud services for businesses to include cloud-based collaboration and messaging services.

* MegaPath - is trying to lure business more customers to sign up for its growing Ethernet portfolio by serving up a new suite of lower-speed service tiers. Priced at $199 per month for both SMBs and enterprise customers in select markets, MegaPath's Basic Ethernet package includes a symmetric 2 Mbps and 3 Mbps service offering.

* Telx -

-- Telx announced that it has entered a strategic alliance with Appcore, a leading global provider of enterprise private hosted cloud services. AboveNet - announced that its Core Wave services are now available to enterprise customers in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley.

Comcast - is on the verge of selling wireless phone service thanks to a partnership with the nation's largest mobile operator (Verizon).

Level 3 - announced it has expanded its network capacity and suite of services in Mexico.

* Telx announced a major expansion in Silicon Valley, where the company has leased 32,000 square feet of in a new data center being built by Vantage Data Centers in Santa Clara, Calif.

Time Warner Cable Business Class - has been awarded a multi-year services contract from the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR), for providing advanced network and internet services to all state agencies.

Windstream - The Federal Communications Commission has approved Windstream Corp.'s acquisition of PAETEC.

AboveNet - may not be offering cloud services in the classic sense, but its new agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to become an AWS Direct Connect Solution Provider illustrates how its fiber network can be an enabler for the cloud services market.

AT&T ....

* AT&T will officially launch its faster LTE wireless service on Sunday in five cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

* In a move to salvage its $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA, AT&T has reportedly approached smaller competitors to sell spectrum and subscribers.

* Democratic Rep. John Yarmuth of Kentucky has asked the FCC to hold off on its decision on the proposed AT&T-Mobile merger until the Justice Department's antitrust suit is settled, preferably a negotiated settlement with telecom companies.

Broadview Networks - rolled out key enhancements to its flagship cloud-based OfficeSuite(TM) hosted IP phone service. OfficeSuite(TM) is now even more user friendly, provides more ubiquitous access via mobile and web applications, and includes a new set of options and features that let companies realize faster the benefits of the system while lowering their total cost of ownership.

Integra Telecom - introduced a cloud security services suite of managed, networked-based security products for companies that rely on the Internet for their business and need to protect their network from unauthorized and malicious access and content. The first available product is Cloud Firewall Service, a network-based unified threat prevention service that provides secure inbound and outbound Internet access without the need for on-premise equipment or additional staff.

Level 3 ....

* Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced that it is now offering a new wide area networking (WAN) solution for enterprises. The solution offers a comprehensive approach to enterprise networking needs, including an integrated portfolio of Level 3's advanced services, to better enable enterprises to optimize the performance of critical business applications.

* Level 3 Communications Inc. said Tuesday it completed its acquisition of Global Crossing Ltd. in a stock swap valued at about $2 billion. Both companies operate long-distance telecommunications networks.

MegaPath - is expanding its use of Adtran Ethernet-over-copper gear to create a nationwide Ethernet footprint that will reach 680 Central Offices (COs) by June 2012.

PAETEC - PAETEC announced the nationwide launch of the cloud-based Advanced Application Reporting (AAR) solution as part of its comprehensive portfolio of data and cloud solutions for enterprise businesses, universities, and government institutions. Using the system, IT leaders and administrators can monitor IP-based traffic by application across their entire network to improve performance with near real-time reporting in five-minute intervals. IT management may then use that information to support their end users, troubleshoot network issues, and plan for future growth and new application deployment.

Telx - announced the successful completion of SSAE 16 compliance in 12 data centers.

Time Warner Cable - is pumping $15 million into a new Wi-Fi network in the Los Angeles area that all TWC high-speed data customers will be able to access for free. The New York City-based cable giant also plans to offer a pay-as-you-go, fee-based service to non-customers and visitors to L.A.

XO Communications ....

* XO Communications announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Laura W. Thomas, XO's Chief Financial Officer, to lead the company as interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Ms. Thomas will also retain responsibility for the company's financial leadership as chief financial officer at this time.

* XO Holdings, the telecommunications provider backed by billionaire Carl Icahn, has become a private company.

AboveNet ....



* Provdotnet, LLC. a leading provider of data center solutions, announced that AboveNet has connected to their Prov.net's data centers located in Providence, RI.



* AboveNet shares dipped into the red in mid-day trade (after trading up as much as 4.2 percent earlier) following headlines from Bloomberg which suggest the company suspended its search for a buyer as offers have been coming up short.



* AboveNet will soon connect to the Montgomery Westland Data Center in Alabama known as The Bunker.



AT&T ...



* AT&T says it is on track to receive regulatory approval of its $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA by March 2012. AT&T General Counsel Wayne Watts said that the company has provided a second round of information requested by the Department of Justice and that meetings with the Federal Communications Commission are going as scheduled, the Washington Post reported.



Integra Telecom ....



* Integra Telecom Inc has expanded its network in major metropolitan areas of the western U.S. Integra has extended its fiber network to nearly 300 additional commercial buildings this year-marking a 20 percent increase in on-net buildings since the beginning of the year.



* Integra Telecom Inc. said this week it has installed a point-of-presence (PoP) within the Phoenix NAP data center and network access facility.



Level 3 ....



* Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced the launch of a new ultra-low-latency fiber-optic route to increase trading speeds between London and Frankfurt. The new route will also allow banks, hedge funds, brokers and other financial services institutions to execute trades with lower latency between additional exchanges connected to the Level 3 network including Zurich, Milan, New York and Chicago.



* Level 3 Communications, Inc announced that it is working with Microsoft Corporation to provide SIP (session initiated protocol) Trunking with nomadic E-911 (enhanced 911) designed to integrate with Microsoft Lync.

* PAETEC announced it has selected Ditech Networks' PhoneTag platform for voicemail-to-text transcription services. Using Ditech Networks' best-in-class transcription service, PAETEC Visual Messaging customers can read transcribed voicemail messages from their smartphones and mobile tablet devices just as they would with an E-Mail, making communications simpler than ever before.

* PowerNet Global unveiled a new high-speed Internet service for business customers in greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The wireless broadband service is powered by a high performance redundant network backbone that leverages PMP 320 fixed point-to-multipoint technology from Motorola Solutions, Inc. MSI +1.59%.

* Smoothstone IP Communications announced today that its MaxxConnect IP trunking services are certified to be compatible with IP telephony systems from ShoreTel.

* Telx announced that Level 3 Communications is expanding network services into Telx's 100 Delawanna Ave. data center in Clifton, New Jersey.



Time Warner Cable ....



* Time Warner Cable has launched its DOCSIS 3.0-based Wideband Internet tier in the Midlands area of South Carolina, including Columbia, Blythewood, Batesburg, Sumter and Orangeburg.



Windstream ....



* Windstream has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire PAETEC Holding Corp.



* Windstream Corp. announces the expansion of its next-generation voice and data services into Columbus, Ga., giving local businesses a new choice for advanced communication services.



* Windstream announced it has begun a significant expansion to its Raleigh data center, one which will grow the facility's usable space by almost 50 percent to 32,000 square feet.



* Windstream Corp. this week brought its high-bandwidth Ethernet for businesses into 11 new markets. The service provider sells through channel partners, who now may offer Ethernet of up to 1gbps in Akron, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio; Indianapolis, Ind.; Wichita, Kan.; Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Okla.; northwestern Arkansas; Augusta, Ga.; Baton Rouge, La.; and Mobile, Ala.

* AccuConference - AccuConference has just released Audio Archiving. All audio conferencing call recordings can be stored safely and securly for $9.95 a month.

* EarthLink - EarthLink Inc. is doubling down on its presence in Rochester by spending $12 million to move its local operations to the Alexander Park Professional Center and buy Perinton firm LogicalSolutions.net.

* GTT - Global Telecom & Technology, Inc. announced an agreement to acquire privately-held, UK-based PacketExchange.

* Level 3 ....

o Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced that it has launched the Level 3 Wholesale Partner Program to better enable domestic and international wholesale carriers to resell Level 3's services to their enterprise customers.

o Level 3 in Europe can now offer Dedicated Internet Access services from all IP gateway locations and is presently developing a new VPN and Managed Services portfolio. In addition, these international enterprise services will leverage the NNIs available to connect customers to the Level 3 Network at over 17,000 new locations throughout Europe.

o Level 3 Communications Inc. is putting the network it built in the late 1990s to a new use, opening up some 200 regeneration and optical amplification sites as access points to its fiber optic backbone. By erecting microwave towers on the two-to-four-acre sites with huts that house re-gen/optical amplification equipment, Level 3 says it can give mobile operators quick and inexpensive access to backhaul coverage across suburban, exurban and hard-to-reach rural areas.

* PAETEC ....

o PAETEC is playing into the business user's need for increased data bandwidth with its new 100 Mbps Ethernet over Copper (EoC) service.

o PAETEC Holding Corp. announced the launch of an expanded portfolio of cloud-based products and the planned deployment of new data centers coast-to-coast.

o PAETEC plans to deploy a new data center in McLean, VA, approximately ten miles from Washington, D.C.

* TelePacific - TelePacific Communications, the largest California-based CLEC providing integrated voice and data telecommunications services to the small and medium-sized business ("SMB") customer segment in California and Nevada, announced a definitive agreement to acquire all of the assets and customers of IXC, Inc., and IXC Holdings, Inc., which do business as Telekenex, a business-grade IP services provider headquartered in San Francisco and Seattle.

* XO Communications ....

o XO Communications Inc. confirmed Thursday that its channel chief, Brian Law, has resigned his post to pursue an entrepreneurial endeavor. * AboveNet

o AboveNet, Inc. announced it has provided fiber connectivity into DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc (DFT) wholesale data center NJ1 located in Piscataway, New Jersey.

o AboveNet announced its successful completion of real world pan-European interoperability tests carried out by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC) across Equinix's Carrier Ethernet Exchange (ECEE) platform between London and Frankfurt.

* AT&T - AT&T Inc. and Deutsche Telekom AG on Thursday filed applications with the Federal Communications Commission to approve AT&T�s $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA.

* EarthLink - EarthLink announced that it has completed the acquisition of One Communications Corp.

* Level 3

o Level 3 Communications Inc., agreed to buy Global Crossing Ltd. for about $1.9 billion to expand its network over three continents and reduce expenses.

o Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced that it is providing Verizon Wireless with backbone infrastructure and cell-site backhaul solutions to support its ongoing rollout of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network.

* MegaPath - Dan Foster is returning to MegaPath and will become their new President of Commercial Markets effective May 2nd. Bruce Chatterley, the former CEO of Speakeasy, who has served as President of MegaPath�s Commercial Markets since their merger, has departed the company to pursue other opportunities.

* PAETEC - PAETEC Holding Corp., announced that its newly acquired Intellifiber network and products are now available for PAETEC's channel partners to sell nationwide.

* Smoothstone

o West Corp., a voice and data provider based in Omaha, Neb., has agreed to buy Smoothstone IP Communications for $120 million

o Smoothstone IP Communications announced the launch of the Mobile Connect application for Android phones. o Telx, announced that iRiS Networks, a leading wholesale telecommunications provider headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., has joined the Telx Ethernet Exchange. Deployed within Telx's data centers in Atlanta and downtown Chicago.

1. AboveNet

* AboveNet has completed its expansion in Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris. It now offers a portfolio of metro and WAN services to enterprises and carriers across Europe.

* AboveNet is taking out its backhoe to install more fiber connectivity and network services in California's growing Orange County area.

2. Broad Sky Networks

Broad Sky Networks has officially launched their iBeam, Optical Wireless Bandwidth product. iBeam offers a point to multipoint or point to point connection of 100M or 1Gb at 1/10th of the cost of fiber and installs quickly. This system can also be deployed in a mesh architecture as well making it ideal for campus environments, healthcare and municipalities to name a few.

3. Broadview Networks

* Broadview Networks plans to roll out its cloud computing services at the end of February.

* Broadview Networks announced that OfficeSuite, its hosted Internet Protocol (IP) phone solution, has surpassed 50,000 VoIP stations in service.

4. Level 3 Communications

* Level 3 Communications announced a strategic long-term agreement with leading Middle East telecommunications operator Saudi Telecom to enable international IP and content distribution services in Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East.

* Level 3 Communications announced that it has extended its network infrastructure in Georgia with the construction of a full network point of presence and fiber node at Global Net Access, LLC's (GNAX) AtlantaNAP Data Center.

* Level 3 Communications has announced enhancements to its data center networking portfolio. These enhancements are designed to help enterprise customers to meet increasing data center connectivity requirements, as well as better manage costs. The enhanced portfolio now includes storage area networking (SAN) fiber channel protocol, dark fiber and managed fiber solutions to provide enterprises with a comprehensive suite of scalable network services that will facilitate data management and storage.

* Level 3 launches Business Partner University. This training platform is designed to make these self-service modules easier to use with the information that you need to successfully sell Level 3 services - all at your own pace.

5. PAETEC

* PAETEC opened a new 4,400 square-foot data center in Phoenix this month.

* PAETEC announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire XETA Technologies, Inc. for $5.50 per share in cash valued at approximately $61 million.

6. Telx

Telx announced that PacketExchange has joined the Telx Ethernet Exchange. PacketExchange will leverage the facility-neutral Ethernet Exchange marketplace of service providers to enable enterprises in markets around the country to outsource their network infrastructure and obtain private, secure connectivity to cloud service providers as well as PacketExchange's global Ethernet network.

7. Time Warner Cable Business Class

Time Warner Cable Inc. and NaviSite, Inc. announced that they have entered into an agreement under which Time Warner Cable will acquire NaviSite, a premier provider of enterprise-class hosting, managed application, messaging and cloud services, for $5.50 per share in cash, or a total equity value of approximately $230 million.

8. Windstream Communications

Windstream Corp. has promoted John Leach to executive vice president of business sales. Leach has led the company's sales and sales support organizations as a senior vice president since September 2009.

9. XO Communications

XO Communications Launches Cloud-Based Communications Service for Enterprises.

January Telecom Vendor News

Here's the January Telecom vendor news for the Broadband Nation ....

1. AboveNet -

* AboveNet announced a strategic sales campaign to expand its network reach to enterprises and carriers in the top U.S. metro markets. The campaign will initially focus on customers in the more than 400 data centers already connected to AboveNet's high performance, low latency network.

* AboveNet has cleared a major hurdle in offering services to Canadian businesses as the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) ruled that it can lease dark fiber and light it to sell services.

* AboveNet is once again on the network build out trail. This time the service provider is bringing its network connectivity to the data cent provider Philadelphia Technology Park.

2. AT&T -

AT&T is entering 2011 with a new generation of mobile broadband products and services. The telecommunications titan announced plans to accelerate the development of its fourth generation, or 4G, network based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology.

3. Cavalier -

PAETEC announced that it has completed its acquisition of Cavalier. As a result of the acquisition, PAETEC now has over 10,600 metro fiber-route miles, over 36,700 total fiber-route miles, and 1,178 collocations to support connectivity to enterprise businesses nationwide.

4. Level 3 Communications -

Level 3 Communications announced it has launched its ultra-low-latency fiber-optic network connections from both London to Madrid and Frankfurt to Madrid. Level 3 will now offer customers transport services on these ultra-low-latency routes, with circuit speeds capable of up to 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps).

5. MegaPath -

MegaPath now offers two new Business Ethernet speeds: 2 x 2 Mbps and 3 x 3 Mbps. The formal product launch will take place during the first week of January, but the speeds are now available in the MegaPath Qual engine for sales.

6. New Edge Networks -

After more than a decade as part of Vancouver's business community, the name New Edge Networks is going away...The business telecommunications company is officially changing its moniker to EarthLink Business over the next few months.

7. One Communications -

EarthLink has agreed to acquire One Communications in a deal valued at $370 million.

8. PAETEC -

PAETEC has announced the grand opening of a new data center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In addition to serving Milwaukee, the center plans to offer colocation for enterprise businesses throughout the Midwestern U.S. including Chicago, Madison, St. Louis, and the Twin Cities.

9. PowerNet Global -

PowerNet Global announced that it has chosen to work with XO Communications, an industry leading Ethernet service provider, to bring its agents and customers high quality Ethernet service at lower prices.

10. Smoothstone -

Smoothstone announced the availability of Smoothstone's cloud-based voice solutions combined with Mobile Integration delivered over the Sprint Global MPLS network to provide unprecedented flexibility and performance for the most dynamic and demanding businesses.

11. TelePacific

* TelePacific announced that its SmartVoice and VoIP services are now available with Ethernet over Copper deployments.

* TelePacific now offers Ethernet over Copper (EoC) delivery in the majority of its California and Nevada service areas, and will bring a total of 120 EoC wire centers online by the end of Q1 2011.

* TelePacific announced a definitive agreement for TelePacific Communications to acquire MegaPath's NextWeb, Inc. subsidiary, dba Covad Wireless, a broadband fixed wireless carrier operating in California and Nevada.

* TelePacific announced that it has launched mobile voice services. TelePacific customers can add mobile service to their TelePacific accounts so they can have one point of contact and one bill for voice, data and wireless services.

12. Telx -

Telx has expanded their data center in Dallas and Clifton New Jersey.

13. tw telecom -

tw telecom announced a major expansion of its fiber network in the metro Atlanta area. The expansion reaches more than 600 additional commercial buildings in business districts within the cities of Johns Creek, Suwanee, Duluth, Norcross, Emory University area, Decatur and Tucker.

14. Windstream -

* Windstream announced that it completed the $818 million acquisition of privately-held Q-Comm Corporation.

* Hosted VoIP is flying off the shelves! Windstream currently has over 200 orders sold and in the install pipeline. They are taking the necessary steps to ensure that they can accommodate the increased volumes, as well as, future increases.

* As of December 24, Windstream Integrated Solutions are now available to the businesses of Glenwood, Iowa and Lonoke, AR!

December Telecom Vendor News From Telarus

Here's the latest Telecom vendor news from Telarus ......

1. AboveNet .....

* AboveNet is extending its network capabilities through connections with CENX, Inc. The first connections are at CENX's New York sites where the AboveNet eXchange Hub service will be available to CENX's carrier exchange customers. AboveNet expects to expand to other CENX exchanges in top domestic and international metro markets.

* AboveNet has expanded its Metro Ethernet and dynamic Core Wave services in the London metro market. The new solutions will help meet customer demand for dedicated, high performance and high bandwidth solutions and facilitate seamless connectivity between London's business and data hubs.

* AboveNet is planning a strategic expansion of its data network by deploying new fiber optic based express routes in the Chicago metro area that will give rise to the lowest latency routes between downtown Chicago and the western suburbs. After the expected completion by mid-year 2011, routes between urban and suburban business hubs will prove to be the shortest data path available with high bandwidth capacity.

2. Level 3 Communications ....

* Level 3 Communications announced that it has been selected to serve as a primary content delivery network (CDN) provider for Netflix, Inc. to support the company's streaming functionality and to support storage for the entire Netflix library of content.

* Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced that as a result of increased customer demand, it has added significant capacity and five new network locations to its content delivery network (CDN). The completion of the augment and installations has added 1.65 Terabits per second (Tbps) of globally available Level 3 CDN capacity. As part of the augment, Level 3 has also added two Canadian cities (Toronto and Montreal) and three European cities (Brussels, Munich and Hamburg) to its CDN.

3. PAETEC - PAETEC has announced three new cities with Ethernet over Copper coverage: Seattle, Denver and Phoenix.

4. Telx ....

* Telx and Interxion announced a strategic alliance designed to help colocation customers easily locate expansion space on the other side of the Atlantic. The alliance is focused on customers in the financial services industry, where the growth of electronic trading is prompting many players to seek a global footprint for their high-speed trading operations.

* Data center operator and colocation firm Telx announced on Friday that the first phase of its 13,500 square foot high-density expansion at its 350 E. Cermak facility in Chicago is now open for immediate occupancy.

5. tw telecom - tw telecom announced a major expansion of its fiber network in the metro Atlanta area. The expansion reaches more than 600 additional commercial buildings in business districts within the cities of Johns Creek, Suwanee, Duluth, Norcross, Emory University area, Decatur and Tucker.

6. Windstream ....

* Windstream announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement with ABRY Partners to acquire Hosted Solutions Acquisition, LLC (Hosted Solutions) in an all-cash transaction valued at $310 million.

* Windstream announced the expansion of its unified communications services to nearly 100 new cities within Windstream's service area. Windstream's IP solutions combine voice, data and Internet services over the same connection. Windstream is expanding its VoIP and Data services to additional cities in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Ohio, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Georgia and Kentucky.

7. XO Communications - XO Communications has expanded its metro network coverage across Phoenix, part of an initiative the company says demonstrates its strategy to expand its presence in existing XO markets. The goal is to serve more enterprise customers with its IP-based communications, managed network solutions and exceptional customer experience.

1. AboveNet

* AboveNet has selected ancotel's Frankfurt facility to expand its network in Europe beyond its existing locations in London, Paris and Amsterdam.

* AboveNet has announced that the Core Wave services are available for carrier and enterprise customers in the New York metro area. The core wave services offer customers a cost-effective, dedicated and versatile data transport solution for connections in major metro business centers.

* AboveNet announced it is expanding its network into the Baltimore Washington Corridor. Three new fiber optic loops will specifically serve enterprise and carrier customers in and between the Columbia Gateway, Annapolis Junction and Maryland's National Business Park.

2. AT&T - AT&T Inc., through its financing subsidiary AT&T Capital Services, is providing loans to small businesses looking to deploy new wireless solutions or upgrade existing ones.

3. Broad Sky Networks - Broad Sky Networks announced their Enterprise HX. This new satellite service is available on Horizon's 1, SatMex 6 and Galaxy 16. Broad Sky Networks also announced the launch of their new iBeam service capable of point to point speeds of 100MB to a full 1GB for distances with direct line of sight up to 1 mile.

4. Broadview Networks - Broadview Networks announced a partnership with Callfinity to integrate its ContextIP contact center and call recording technologies with Broadview's silhouette hosted Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system. As a result, silhouette service provider customers can make use of Callfinity's industry-leading call routing, queuing, recording, and reporting functionality as an integrated solution for their small-to-medium business customers.

5. Level 3 Communications

* Level 3 Communications announced that, in response to increased demand, it will now offer uncompressed high-definition (HD) video transport services between Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and New York City, giving customers in these cities the ability to transmit live video with a previously unattainable level of clarity and quality.

* Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced the introduction of its Converged Business Network service, offering its enterprise customers a comprehensive solution to handle all their voice, Internet and data networking needs through one carrier, one circuit and with one bill.

* Level 3 Communications, Inc. welcomed President Obama's announcement of his intent to appoint James Q. Crowe, the company's chief executive officer, to the position of Chair of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee.

* Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced that it has enhanced its managed services capabilities through a new agreement with Presidio Networked Solutions, a leading provider of professional and managed services solutions. Working with Presidio, Level 3 will leverage equipment from industry hardware vendors such as ADTRAN, Cisco, Fortinet, and Riverbed Technology in support of its managed services solutions.

* Level 3 Communications, Inc. announced its work with London-based Stream UK to offer a joint live-streaming solution for enterprise customers using the Adobe Flash Platform with support for HTTP. The solution allows business customers to stream live events within corporate environments while eliminating previous issues with firewall configuration and strain on the business's network.

6. MegaPath - As MegaPath begins to integrate the assets of the former Speakeasy and Covad into its fold, the new managed service local exchange carrier is offering a free Cisco SPA 303-3 IP phone to any new business customer that signs up for its unlimited or global Hosted Voice calling plans.

7. PAETEC - PAETEC has announced an Ethernet Expansion in Seattle, WA, Tuxedo, NY, Braselton, GA, Jefferson, GA, Colorado Springs, Oxford, Maine, Sacramento, California and Norfolk, VA.

8. Smoothstone - Smoothstone announced the launch of Mobile Connect, an application designed specifically for Apple's iPhone. Enterprises, through the newly launched application, will be allowed to extend the reach of their corporate communications services to mobile employees.

9. Telx

* Telx announced that it has nearly doubled the footprint of its data center at the 111 8th Avenue facility in New York City.

* Telx announced the deployment of the Telx Ethernet Exchange service at five U.S. locations: 60 Hudson Street and 111 8th Avenue in New York City; 350 East Cermak Street in Chicago; 56 Marietta Street in Atlanta, and 200 Paul St. in San Francisco. These locations, combined with the 14 Ethernet Exchange locations offered through the Telx relationship with Neutral Tandem (NASDAQ: TNDM), gives customers the largest Ethernet Exchange coverage in the U.S. Charter Customer participants include KDDI, Expereo, FiberLight, Intelepeer, Intellifiber Networks, IPNetZone, OneSource, Packet Exchange and RRSat.

* Telx announced that it has launched its enhanced Web-based customer portal, enabling colocation, interconnection, Internet Exchange, Dedicated Internet Access and Ethernet Exchange users to manage services and view highly-detailed inventories of their space, power, connectivity and bandwidth.

10. tw telecom - tw telecom and Louisiana Optical Network Initiative (LONI) have teamed on providing metro network resources needed to build a powerful network called SCinet. This network has been designed to deliver more than 260 gigabits per second (Gbps) in bandwidth.

11. Windstream - The U.S. Department of Agriculture said it has given Windstream $7.3 million to extend broadband Internet access into unserved areas of rural Arkansas. Windstream will match the grant with $2.4 million of its money.

12. XO Communications

* XO Communications has expanded its network coverage across Charlotte, N.C., more than doubling its addressable market across the metropolitan area.

* XO Communications surpasses a million business VoIP users.

* XO Communications announced that it is offering advanced IP-based communications, managed network and hosted IT services to businesses across the Rochester and Buffalo metropolitan areas.
